at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

italian producer my dry wet mess, aka giovanni civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since its exciting fledgling years. though his father is the bass player for ennio morricones orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous italian records, from a young age gio was drawn towards hip hop. at the age of 14 his father gave him a sampler and an atari, his beatmaking experiments grew boundless. having released albums on daedleus magical properties imprint and flying lotus brainfeeder, it is a great pleasure for fine grains to present his debut vinyl release – the *laptop lapdance ep*. it comes equipped with remixes from ikonika, dam mantle & auntie flo.

>i am ok<, reads the title of the new album by the berlin-based producer, dj and label-owner oliver koletzki. the heading0s ambiguity is, of course, deliberate: theres a deeper meaning hidden behind the humorous facade that is chrisse kunsts hand-drawn cover, which depicts an unadorned thirteen-year-old oliver sporting nerd glasses and a striped jumper: i am oliver koletzki, raw and authentic. because musically, on his fifth studio album, oliver koletzki looks towards the unaffected freshness of back in the day, and thus, consciously returns to his roots.

reform is the first work by stave. the album is an exercise in precision and spacialization, with isolated electronics and icy beats producing a grisaille of vaporized metals. tracks move from disembodied murk and blunted pulses to sustained forcefulness. touch points include techno, ambient and industrial predecessors, all bent gravitationally towards a dark, cold and unsettling soundworld.

the eighteenth theomatic installment comes courtesy of amberflame. the a-side unique is a lean towards the early-naughties dancefloor-oriented french electronica with a certain amount of delicate synthwork and contemporary crisp blended in. the laidback and melancholic ultraviolet, on the flipside, would, without any doubt, make a perfect soundtrack to a sunset drive down the coast… with a beautiful lady… in a convertible.

the us producer recently joined the ranks of talent residing in berlin and its evident the european techno capital is having a subtle sway on his sound on the basis of this apotheke ep, most notably the title track. theres a sense of driving momentum wedged deep in the sonic dna of this track, complemented well by a low slung bassline and airy synth melodies. elsewhere huertas sometime studio sparring partner urulu adds some percussive flex to the pulsating swing set, whilst kingsleys groove swerves the sound back towards deeper house and is apparently named in honour of a friends cat. glenn astro of the tartelet crew ends the release with a wonderfully bumping take on the track.

if you re going to launch a label, it s always wise to start with a bang. that s exactly what newcomers audio visual have done here, recruiting detroit veteran terrence dixon and chez damier cohort michael zucker (boss of finale recordings, no less) for a four-track trip into deep techno and intergalactic house. dixon goes deep into the groove on the hissing, intoxicating deep techno roller -mta-, before delivering a touch more melody on the retro-futurist gem -over the top-. zucker, on the other hand, opts for a jaydee-does-deep house feel to -foundation (part 1)-, before setting off towards the heavens with the deliciously deep, smooth reflections

while some of you might think of planet rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it is also pushing things forward in the present time, with woo york being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprints recent catalogue. that said, 2014 starts with ukrainian duo taking over planet rhythm headquarters as the labels proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development. first out of press is the duos own ep highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. from abstract tb-303-ish structures of acid rain, through the building peaks of analogue swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to come closers uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be woo yorks strongest release to date.

although delivering a mysterious & scantily clad 12 inch is hardly a novel concept these days, we must confess to being more than a little excited when we heard this one! it is undercover time again, and we’re sworn to secrecy, of course… what we do know, however is that this mighty release is an absolute dancefloor sureshot! made up of two long, pitched down and utterly mesmerising workouts kicking off with itaque putant, a mid-tempo, tripped out disco number that marries elements of techno, late 80s balearia and more than a nod towards classic red zone dubs. super low subs and bags of melodic atmosphere conspire to provide a perfect dancing under the stars moment. on the flip timento is a lysergic, tribalistic epic, stitching together a series of ethnic ingredients and overlaying some seriously transcendent modern synth candy. building into the soundtrack for a full blown shamanic vision! a serious platter then, and when the music is this good, who needs more?

in recent times soul notes tilted a little towards more groove driven, distortion ladenmachine funk. snx001 is the missing release out of the snx series thus far. label head honcho kastil joins up with cologne based adryiano, who is quickly becoming one of the labels favorite household names. the signature snx sounds is developing into a dark psych-oriented club sound which this ep represents as never before. the opening track *snakes and holes* is pure percussive machinery with the heaviest overdriven kickdrums you will ever hear. on the a2, adryiano sets the mood with a low swinging bass and some eardrum deafening kicks which progresses into the b1 which is perced out to the max with some 303 bassline drama and distortion to top that off. for the b2 track, head honcho kastil shows off some lo-fi drum action on controversy.

valcrond video, the label of brooklyn-based visual artist and producer luke wyatt presents its very first vinyl issue in the shape of two new tracks from torn hawk, one of wyatts aliases. first coming to the fore in a musical sense with a set of distressed guitar and asphalt beat attacks on the lies white label series, torn hawk has been closely associated with ron morellis label ever since with wyatt subsequently working with karen gwyer, secret circuit and willie burns. distancing himself a bit from the grime and grit some associate with his productions, the two new tracks have more in common with the more expansively voiced compositions on emotional response release teen hawk, or the cinematic melancholy of the untitled ep he released under the alias lossmaker. clearly wyatt is building towards housing all his musical instincts under one roof.

a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy – perhaps a clue to mr georget… one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.

christoph el truentos debut album, what we used to know, is born of change and confusion, and sounds utterly incredible for it. the deeply talented 24-year-old new zealander started writing back in 2011 at the time his son was born. tired fatherhood, personal upheaval and artistic indecision would actually help show christoph a clear path towards completing the record – a transcendant sweep of synths, samples, organic instrumentation and window ledge field recording that gently reveals new layers of sonic texture and emotion to the listener.

brian leeds produces electronic music under the name huerco s. his debut album for software is titled colonial patterns. on colonial patterns, leeds treats his kansas city region as a universe worthy of its own electronic music. to that end, leeds deconstructs midwestern techno and house tropes. the pieces are corrugated, rough, and decompositional. working cheaply, leeds conscientiously uses low-end software, synths and cassettes so as to subvert the gloss of so much urban dance music, giving tracks an impressionistic, emotive feel. the result is uniquely midwestern: there is an expansiveness to each piece that suits the open space and the storied past of its inhabitants.

hirofumi goto aka rondenion made his debut releases on still music back in 2005. shortly after, he released a streak of detroit infused house 12 on rushhour, aesthetic audio and more to great critical acclaim. a dj and producer born in japan. he began working as a recording artist in the late 90s under the name hirofumi goto, and released his global debut, >ameria ep<. it drew attention for its dark beats, unusual for a japanese artist, and was played by top djs like derrik may. he changed his name to rondenion to show respect to chicago and detroit, and began working on an overseas release. ultimately, his love bound ep was released by major labels such as >rush hour< and became a big hit. it reached the top on the rushhourstore sales chart, and became popular in europe. in 2012 he formed >ragrange symphony< with his old friends no milk and kez ym, and he is currently working on a number of projects for his own record label, >ragrange records<.after being approached by roundabout sounds for a remix, discussions shortly after were directed towards a plan for releasing rondenions debut album on both vinyl (roundabout sounds) and digital (plug research). the result is the luster grand hotel debut album, ready to drop in september 2013. luster grand hotel is the most accomplished project from rondenion, an absolute blend of detroit and chicago house, reminiscent of the music from moodymann, theo parrish and rick wilhite. a must have for any real house music fans.

ghostek is a russian garage and techno producer currently residing in moscow. he has previously released vinyl on other heights and shiprec, and has collaborated with rooflight as ghostlight, releasing a 12 inch on styrax. a prolific producer, his tracks have created a substantial online fan base, with some of his productions reaching tens of thousands of plays. he runs the digital label squared harmony. the *no way out ep* is composed of four tracks, two very garage leaning, two more towards techno, all reminiscent of londons music scene, despite the producers russian location. the dark atmosphere of the music is reflected in the artwork and track names across the release. sub squared is a new label, a sub-label of project squared which has a back catalogue including tracks by kowton, and, asusu and tom dicicco. the aim of this new label is to represent the taste of one of the two founders of project squared.

someone sound the funk alarm … bumper, the netherlands-based duo of geoffrey t and mr pauli, live and breathe sizzling, floor-busting electro-funk with one ear cocked to the classic sound and the other raised towards some sci-fi future. “get into position” proclaims the goal here: get all those people on the dance floor, ready to move! jimmy edgar kicks things off with a deep techno remix full of swirling synths and an infectious bassline, then londons tad wily does a funky 4 on the floor remix. the flip features 3 original funk grooves of varying tempo. *get into position* stakes its claim on frenzied body motion. *s.o.s.* provides a deeper excursion into the boogie zone. *ten four* then pops along at an erotic city-esque pace. sweet!

cool new release with sick jtc acid remix on minimal rome records! polysick has the honour to have the 25th release of the label, with two tracks for the mrx-patiendum est series. from the mysterious hypnotic visions of digital native (planet mu) and the proustian reverie of daydream (audiomer), polysick moves towards an obscure and sinister dancefloor with a 12 that hosts on the b-side a whirling acid remix by jtc.

tin man has been creating a stir on dance floors worldwide for many years with his unique vision of acid, techno and house. in recent times he has opened his production toolbox to a wider variety of styles, also focusing on songwriting, often adding vocals. the underdog series, produced last winter in new york, emphasizes on deep killer techno – this new release – the underdog ep part 2 – features three floor shaking techno cuts in different shapes. on the a side the aptly titled >swarm< features an epic minimal acid tune building over 10 minutes driven by twirling soundscapes resembling a swarm of killerbees on attack. flipping over there is >hack<, which bows towards soundhack with its dirty funked up sample chords and cut up groove. the ep finishes off with >rocky<, a masterpiece in reduction – hypnotic and deep techno.
